I've never driven luxury cars with automatic, so I can't really compare. It's not instantaneous, and it's not really laggy either. It also depends on what RPM you are doing and some fuzzy logic in the gear box. You get used to it I think and maybe I anticipate a bit of lag, I am quite satisfied. the best way to find out if you like it would be to test drive it

Does it change gear immediately when you pull the paddles, or do you have to wait, like in a mercedes or other luxurious cars?

Yes it is mine, the DSG is satisfactory. There have been some minor occasional glitches when pushed to the limit in manual. In 1 year (30.000km) I have experienced 2 hickups when shifting manually and about 4 times when it automatically shifted to top gear as a failsafe (i presume). Also launch control doesn't work properly for me, but I don't really want to use that anyway since it is mostly wheelspin and no traction @ stage 1. Having said that, I wouldn't trade it for a manual, it's great
